What is a drone Flyer ID?

A drone Flyer ID is a personal ID you get after passing the CAA’s Drone and Model Aircraft Theory Test. It shows you’re qualified to fly a drone legally in the UK. The flyer ID must be renewed every five years. The test is free to take.

Up until the end of 2025, anyone flying a drone weighing 250g or more requires a Flyer ID.

From the start of 2026, a Flyer ID is required for:

  • Drones weighing from 250g to 25kg.
  • Drones weighing 100g to less than 250g, with a camera
  • Drones weighing 100g to less than 250g, without a camera
  • UK class marked drones: UK0, UK1, UK2, UK3, and UK4.
