Sectors / Utilities

Inspect the network, not the engineer.

Power lines, substations, pipelines and water assets — surveyed from the air on a repeatable schedule, with no one climbing a pylon or walking a corridor. heliguy helps utilities start and scale autonomous inspection on DJI Dock 3, the Matrice 4D Series and FlightHub 2.

The shift

A truck roll, a road closure and a climbing team becomes a scheduled flight that launches itself — capturing the same asset the same way, every time.

Inspection data lands in FlightHub 2 automatically, ready to analyse. Repeatable, comparable, and safe — your people stay on the ground.

02 Across the network

One platform, every asset class.

Electricity · water · gas · telecoms
01 Power lines

Corridor patrols.

Cover extended powerline routes per mission, capturing insulators, conductors and support structures. Laser range finder measures distances to flag structural deterioration.

02 Substations

Thermal fault-finding.

Radiometric thermal on the M4TD surfaces hotspots and loose connections before they fail — inspected without de-energising or sending a person inside the fence.

03 Pipelines

Long-line monitoring.

Patrol pipeline corridors and rights-of-way on a schedule, with onboard relay extending transmission range across remote or mountainous ground.

04 Water & environment

Recurring observation.

Monitor reservoirs, treatment works and sensitive sites with repeatable flights, and use intelligent change detection to flag what's different between visits.

05 Sites & towers

Asset oversight.

Oversee large facilities and tall structures with minimal staff — high-precision mapping and detailed surface inspection from the M4D's multi-camera payload.

03 The workflow

Schedule, fly, analyse, repeat.

Autonomous · data-driven
03 Dock 3 + FlightHub 2

Remote, repeatable inspection, without the truck roll.

A Dock 3 on or near the asset turns inspection into a scheduled task. The Matrice 4D Series flies a pre-planned route, captures visual and thermal data, and uploads results to FlightHub 2 automatically — enhancing quality and consistency while keeping personnel safe.

01Plan the route once — waypoints, payload actions and schedule for each asset or corridor.
02Fly automatically — the drone launches on schedule and inspects to plan, with live streaming for assurance.
03Capture & upload — visual and thermal imagery lands in FlightHub 2 with location and time, ready to analyse.
04Compare over time— intelligent change detection highlights what's changed between visits, for evidence-led maintenance.

why it matters

Remote operations cut transport time and road closures — and take your people off the pylon.

Power Line Follow mode, flying the line for you.

The DJI Zenmuse L2can automatically track a power line as it flies — streamlining capture and building a dense, accurate LiDAR point cloud, right down to thin wiring. heliguy's in-house survey team flew it on the M350 RTK for this dataset.

04 The platform

The right aircraft for the asset.

Verified specifications · May 2026

The Matrice 4D Series is the autonomous inspection aircraft for Dock 3. Both carry a wide, medium-tele and tele camera plus a laser range finder; the M4D is built for high-precision mapping and detailed surface inspection, while the M4TD adds a radiometric thermal camera and NIR light for fault-finding and night work.

Pair either with Dock 3 — fixed or vehicle-mounted — and FlightHub 2 for scheduled, repeatable, fleet-wide operations.

Fixed or vehicle-mounted dock — hold a permanent site or move the dock along the corridor.
Onboard relay + DJI Cellular — extend range across remote, mountainous or obstructed ground.
Change detection— periodic analysis flags cracks, anomalies and what's different between visits.

05 The difference

Manual inspection has a ceiling.

Traditional · vs · autonomous drone
Traditional inspection

Trucks, teams and risk.

Climbing teams, road closures, helicopters and long travel times. Expensive, slow, exposed to weather windows — and every inspection is captured slightly differently.

AccessClimb, close roads, charter aircraft
SafetyPeople at height, near live assets
CadenceLimited by crews & cost
DataInconsistent, hard to compare
Autonomous drone

Scheduled, safe, comparable.

A docked drone flies the same route the same way on a schedule, uploading visual and thermal data automatically — so you inspect more often, more safely, with datasets you can actually trend.

AccessLaunch on schedule — no truck roll

CadenceAs often as the asset needs

CAA Specific Category · UK SORA

Autonomous, no-pilot-on-site inspection is beyond visual line of sight— the CAA's Specific Category, needing an Operational Authorisation assessed through UK SORA, which assigns a SAIL. heliguy has achieved SAIL I and SAIL II for Dock 3 deployment.

We wrap it in consultancy, CAA-approved training and a Remote Operation Command Centre — qualified pilots who can run your inspection programme while your own permissions and team come online.

UK SORA consultancy — risk assessment, ops manual and authorisation route for your assets.
ROCC — qualified remote pilots operate your deployment from day one.

08 Frequently asked

Quick answers.

Talk to a specialist →
01Which aircraft suits utility inspection?

The Matrice 4D for high-precision mapping and detailed visual inspection; the M4TD when you need radiometric thermal for hotspots and fault-finding. Both carry wide, medium-tele and tele cameras plus a laser range finder, and both pair with Dock 3 for autonomous operation.

02Do we need a pilot at every site?

No. With Dock 3 the drone launches, inspects and lands itself on a schedule, monitored remotely through FlightHub 2. It does require a CAA Operational Authorisation — heliguy holds SAIL I & II for Dock 3 deployment, offers UK SORA consultancy, and can run it for you via our ROCC while your own permissions mature.

03How does this reach remote assets?

The Matrice 4D Series has an onboard relay that extends transmission range in mountainous or obstructed terrain, and supports the DJI Cellular module for 4G-enhanced transmission. The dock can also be vehicle-mounted to move along a corridor.

04What do we do with the data?

Inspection imagery uploads to FlightHub 2 automatically with location and time. Repeatable flights produce comparable datasets, and intelligent change detectionflags what's changed between visits — supporting evidence-led, planned maintenance. For sovereign data control, FlightHub 2 On-Premises keeps everything in your own network.

05Can heliguy help us start from scratch?

Yes — that's the point. Consultancy, CAA-approved training, DJI-certified repairs and the UK's largest enterprise rental fleet, plus the ROCC to operate while you build capability. Start with one asset class and scale to a fleet.
