Buying guide · Which Neo

DJI Neo 2 or DJI Neo — which is right for you?

Both are palm-launch follow-me drones in the sub-250 g class with full-coverage propeller guards, so both are easy and safe to fly around people. The Neo 2 is the current model; the original Neo remains a lower-cost way in while stock lasts.

The system around the Neo

Both generations share the same simple accessory set — spare power, guards and the controllers that unlock longer range and FPV.

Batteries & charging

Spare intelligent flight batteries and the two-way charging hub — charge three batteries in around an hour so a day of short flights never stops.

Power & charging

Propeller guards

Full-coverage guards ship in the box and are cheap to replace — the reason the Neo is confident indoors and around groups.

Guards & props

Controllers & goggles

Fly hands-free by palm, precisely with the RC-N3, or in immersive FPV with the RC Motion 3 and Goggles N3.

Controllers

Digital transceiver (Neo 2)

The Neo 2’s digital transceiver adds stable, low-latency video when flying with a controller or goggles.

DJI Neo — common questions

Neo 2 or the original Neo — which should I buy?

Buy the Neo 2 if you want the current model with OcuSync 4 for longer controller range. Choose the original Neo if you want the lowest cost and mostly fly palm-launched follow-me shots at close range — the flying experience and safety features are otherwise very similar.

Do I need a controller to fly it?

No. Both take off from your palm and fly automatic follow-me, dronie, orbit and spotlight modes with no controller. Add the RC-N3 for precise manual control and longer range, or the RC Motion 3 and goggles for FPV.

Is it safe to fly indoors and around people?

Yes — full-coverage propeller guards are included, and the sub-250 g class keeps it light. It is one of the easiest DJI drones to fly around groups and in confined spaces.

What can it film?

Stabilised 4K video with automatic subject tracking, built for quick social clips, vlogging and selfie-style aerials rather than professional cinematography.

What is OcuSync 4 and do I need it?

OcuSync 4 is DJI’s latest transmission system, new to the Neo 2. It gives a longer, more stable video link when flying with a controller. If you mainly fly close-range palm-launched shots you may not need it; for controller-piloted range it is worth having.

Does it need registering to fly in the UK?

As with any camera drone, you will need a valid Operator ID from the CAA to fly it outdoors in the UK. heliguy can point you to the right registration and, if you want it, training.
