GVC Renewal Course

Stay compliant and safe

GVC Renewal: Why You Need To Renew

  • Meet regulatory requirements:

Remain compliant with the UK CAA regulations.

  • Protect your operational permissions.

Retain access to specific flying privileges and ensure a smooth continuation of your operations.

  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes.

Stay updated on the latest regulatory changes, airspace rules, and safety protocols.

  • Strengthen your knowledge:

Enhance safety standards by refreshing your theory knowledge - as well as practical skills if you haven't met the currency requirements.

  • Save time and money:

Avoid costly requalification processes. The renewal course is a more efficient process, but letting your GVC lapse means you need to sit a new GVC course and will have to repeat the entire learning process. This is more expensive than sitting a renewal course and more time-intensive, which could lead to damaging downtime while you try to secure a new GVC.

  • Build client confidence:

Demonstrate professionalism to clients and authorities.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to renew my GVC?

After booking your GVC Renewal with us, you will be given access to the online GVC Renewal Course.

Before you can sit your theory examination, you will be required to submit:

• Proof of identification, ie a copy of a valid driving license, passport, warrant card etc.

• Valid GVC Certificate - which has not expired.

• Valid Flyer ID.

• GVC Renewal Logbook downloaded and complete, showing flight currency, with supporting evidence. The currency requirement, as set out by the UK CAA, is for two hours of flight time over the last three months.

Please note, if you cannot provide currency and evidence, you will be required to conduct a Practical Flight Assessment at one of our UK venues. If you can provide currency and evidence, you will not be required to conduct a Practical Flight Assessment.

I was a GVC holder but my certificate has now expired? Can I sit the renewal course?

No. If your GVC certificate has expired, you can not sit the renewal course and will need to complete a full, standard GVC course.

What is the minimum time before renewal I can sit the course?

We recommend conducting, or starting to think about conducting, the GVC Renewal Course six months before the expiry of your valid GVC certificate.

What happens if my GVC expires during the time I am sitting the GVC Renewal course?

Your GVC certificate can expire during the GVC Renewal course - as long as the course was purchased and started before the expiry date.

If this happens, you should not fly under the provisions of the certificate (i.e. Specific Category with an Operational Authorisation) until you have passed the course and been re-issued with a new GVC certificate.

Do I need to conduct a flight assessment as part of the GVC Renewal process?

This depends on your flight currency.

If you can prove that you have conducted two hours of flight time in the last three months, you do not need to conduct a Practical Flight Assessment.

If you cannot prove that you have conducted two hours of flight time in the last three months - or if you have not met this competency requirement - you will be required to conduct a practical flight assessment.

What happens if I fail the theoretical examination?

If you fail the theory exam, you must work through the theory content on the heliguy™ Learning Management System and re-do a different theory assessment.

There is not an extra charge for this.

Do I need to pay an additional charge if I need to sit a Practical Flight Assessment or I need to resit my theory exam?

No, you do not. This is covered in the price you pay when enrolling for the course.
