How to specify an Inspire 3 for your production
The Inspire 3 ships as a single aircraft combo. What varies is the kit you build around it — the lenses, power and licences a given production needs. Here is where most crews start.
The complete airframe — Zenmuse X9-8K Air gimbal, DJI RC Plus, O3 Pro transmission and the core flight kit to get in the air.
Full shoot days: TB51 intelligent batteries and the eight-bay charging hub keep a two-operator crew rolling between setups.
The CinemaDNG + ProRes RAW licence unlocks the X9-8K Air’s full codec range for grading-critical and VFX work.
The system around the aircraft
The Inspire 3 is a platform. The lenses, storage, monitoring and power you pair with it define what it can shoot.
DL-mount full-frame lenses
Six native primes — 18, 24, 35, 50, 75 and 100 mm — swap on the X9-8K Air to match the look to the job, from wide establishers to tight telephoto.
Browse lenses →Storage & RAW workflow
8K CinemaDNG and ProRes RAW write to the DJI PRO SSD at up to 900 MB/s. Pair with the RAW licence for the full codec set.
PRO SSD →Dual-operator control
A second DJI RC Plus hands the camera off from pilot to camera operator — the standard set-up for broadcast and high-end commercial work.
RC Plus →Pro monitoring & focus
The High-Bright Remote Monitor and Focus Pro Hand Unit add director monitoring and precise wireless follow-focus to the rig.
DJI Pro modules →DJI Inspire 3 — common questions
Which DL lenses should I start with?
Most crews begin with the 24 mm and 50 mm as an all-round pair, then add the 18 mm for wide establishers and the 75 or 100 mm for tight, compressed telephoto. All six are native full-frame DL primes designed for the Zenmuse X9-8K Air.
What does built-in RTK give me?
Centimetre-accurate positioning, which makes Waypoint Pro flights repeatable — you can fly the same move take after take, essential for VFX plates, day-to-night matches and multi-pass composites.
How does dual-operator control work?
Two DJI RC Plus controllers connect at once: one operator flies the aircraft while the other frames and exposes the shot on the gimbal. It is the standard configuration for broadcast and commercial productions.
Do I need the CinemaDNG + ProRes RAW licence?
The aircraft records high-quality compressed formats out of the box. The licence unlocks 8K CinemaDNG and Apple ProRes RAW for grading-critical and VFX-heavy work — add it if your delivery pipeline needs RAW.
What is the flight time, and how do I keep shooting?
Up to 28 minutes per set of TB51 batteries. The eight-bay TB51 charging hub fast-charges between setups, so a two-battery-set rotation keeps a full crew productive across a shoot day.
Can heliguy train my crew on it?
